Socially Distant Photo Sessions—The New Normal
During these socially distant times, it’s best to be safe, so we decided to do an outdoor maternity photo session. Just because the studio or inside your home aren’t location options doesn’t mean that your photo session must be cancelled. Pregnancy photos, or any other type of photos session CAN still happen outside in a park or garden.
They’re Together, and We’re Safely Apart
Since the weather is getting to be nice, and staying inside is getting old, having your photo session outside is the best answer. Baby is not going to wait for the social distancing guidelines to be over! Spring is a fabulous time to explore and use the awesome natural spots in Connecticut and Westchester.
This is the only time you have to get awesome maternity photos. First and foremost, let’s keep it safe. For this photos session in Baxter State Preserve in Katonah, we stayed at least six feet apart.
Instead of physically positioning my clients, I acted out the way that I wanted them to stand.
I also had to describe in detail (with words, not touching) which way to face, and where I wanted them to look. Purell was our constant friend, as it always is these days.
Instead of using maternity clothes that I keep for clients in the studio, I texted back and forth with this mama to determine what would be the best outfit for her session. See some studio maternity photo sessions here.
As usual, we thought the most natural outfits would go with this natural outdoor maternity photo session setting. Plus, she was much more comfortable walking around in jeans!
A Long Lens Really Pays Off!
Even though I couldn’t get close to my clients, I still wanted to get some shots that were very close in.
Although this photo looks like I was right on top of them, it was really done zoomed in from about 20 feet away.
My extra-long 70-200mm zoom lens was able to capture the tenderness shown between these parents-to-be, with no risk to them or their baby.
